That’s always a tall order considering the long list of actors vying for the role, but to narrow things down, it’s been reported that the next Bond needs to be British, physically fit, and in his late 20s or early 30s. That last requirement is disappointing to some, because it disqualifies many fan favorites. Casting a younger actor for the part makes sense, however, because he’s expected to reprise Bond across multiple films.

What’s exciting about the franchise is its efforts to appeal to a younger demographic. Introducing a reckless, brash Bond in Casino Royale was a step in the right direction, because it depicted him as a relatable rookie in his early years. The video game 007 First Light did the same by allowing gamers to play Bond in his 20s. Now, fans can go further back in the timeline with Young Bond: SilverFin, an upcoming audio drama about Bond’s early adventures as a teen.

Slated for release this October, Young Bond: SilverFin follows the titular character as he navigates life inside and beyond Eton boarding school, long before he became 007. The audio drama is split into 16 half-hour episodes and fully adapts Charlie Higson’s first Young Bond novel. Higson and Steve Cole wrote nine Young Bond books combined, so there’s potential for more adaptations if Young Bond: SilverFin does really well. Young Bond offers a unique perspective on 007 because, as a budding spy, he does a surprising amount of investigative work in the novels.

Bond will be voiced by Isaac Rouse, whose notable performances include The Crown, Genius, and Get Even. For his acting debut, Rouse also played Charlie in the stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by acclaimed director Sam Mendes. If that name rings a bell, it’s because Mendes also helmed Skyfall and Spectre. Over 500 actors reportedly applied for Rouse’s role, and only 12 made it to the auditions.

Joining Rouse is Charlotte McBurney as the voice of Wilder Lawless, Bond’s equal and ally. McBurney is best known for her performances in the video games Final Fantasy XVI and A Plague Tale. Now, “Bond girls” are inseparable from 007, but their portrayals have varied widely across the franchise — some of them have held their own against the main villains, while others only served as Bond’s love interests. The proto-Bond girl, Lawless is every bit as empowered as Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies or Nomi in No Time to Die, and she’s one of the best in the franchise.

Young Bond: SilverFin is produced by Big Finish Productions, best known for their audio plays based on beloved properties like Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes, Judge Dredd, and The Avengers. For those who have read the book and want early dibs on the audio adaptation, a collectible edition of Young Bond: SilverFin is now available for preorder at the Big Finish website.

The James Bond reboot made headway last month after Amazon MGM Studios announced that it had ramped up…

[27
156,409,111,139,69
post-487766","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-movies","tag-entertainment","tag-movies","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz
["GET
