In a social media post, a friend thanked Te Rangi for his support, humour and love.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for always having my back multiple times, your huge grin and humour and all your love you had,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n

In another social media post, a friend said Te Rangi\u2019s death was heartbreaking.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo sad nephew, you are a star in the heavens,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n

The family asked for support as they navigated their loss and thanked those who had offered prayers and aroha.<\/p>\n

Tangihanga details would be shared once arrangements had been confirmed.<\/p>\n

A single-vehicle crash happened on Wharekopae Rd in P\u0101t\u016btahi<\/a> at about 5.20pm.<\/p>\n

One person died and 11 others were injured, five of them seriously. It is understood the occupants of the van were forestry workers.<\/p>\n

Hato Hone St John said nine vehicles and three helicopters had attended the incident.<\/p>\n
