A man allegedly assaulted a security guard at a Dunedin convenience store after being busted smuggling out lollies underneath his top, police say.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said police were called to Night \u2018n Day Regent Rd about 11pm on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The store\u2019s loss prevention officer discovered a 45-year-old man who was allegedly concealing confectionery underneath his top.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The man was confronted by the staff member as he attempted to leave the store.<\/p>\n
The staff member attempted to detain him, but the man resisted, pushing him before running from the store, Sgt Lee said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe male had been trespassed from the store a week earlier.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police could not immediately find the man, but later saw him walking through the Octagon a few hours later.<\/p>\n
He was arrested and bailed to appear in the Dunedin District Court at a later date, charged with assault, wilful trespass and shoplifting, Sgt Lee said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
