{"id":490703,"date":"2026-06-23T00:25:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T00:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/490703\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T00:25:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T00:25:10","slug":"death-of-person-found-in-auckland-pond-remains-unexplained","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/490703\/","title":{"rendered":"Death of person found in Auckland pond remains &#8216;unexplained&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police are treating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2026\/06\/22\/report-of-body-in-water-at-flat-bush-park-police-cordon-off-area\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">discovery of a body in a pond<\/a> at a south Auckland park yesterday as &#8220;unexplained&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services were called at 4.08pm on Monday after a member of the public found the body in a secluded area of Rongomai Park.<\/p>\n<p>Footage captured at the scene by 1News showed police officers setting up for their investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Police said search and rescue teams have recovered the body, with a post-mortem expected to take place today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this stage, the death remains unexplained and formal identification procedures are underway,&#8221; a police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>The park has since reopened, but police said the public might still see an increased police presence as inquiries continue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-greyDarkFaded\">The morning headlines including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer&#8217;s resignation and a new FIFA record from Lionel Messi.
