Kennard, 53, has now admitted his guilt in the Christchurch District Court. <\/p>\n
He made a brief appearance on Tuesday as Judge Mark Callaghan set a sentencing date and released the summary of facts to NZME. <\/p>\n
Kennard had been seen by another police officer about 15 minutes earlier, driving 110 km\/h in a 100 km\/h zone on a stretch of State Highway 1 near Temuka, South Canterbury.<\/p>\n
The patrol car turned on its lights and did a U-turn to catch up to him, but Kennard accelerated southbound into the township\u2019s main street, where he was clocked doing 143km\/h near where a 70km\/h posted speed limit met a 50km\/h limit.<\/p>\n
He swerved in and out of the median strip as he overtook vehicles at high speed along King St through the town\u2019s commercial hub. <\/p>\n
He continued into a side street, where he undertook a motorcyclist, narrowly missing the bike. <\/p>\n
The motorcyclist alerted two officers at the nearby police station on Domain Ave.<\/p>\n
One of them saw Kennard speeding along Domain Ave, about 10 minutes after he had been spotted by police on SH1, and signalled him to stop.<\/p>\n
Instead, Kennard accelerated through a stop sign and made his way back onto the main street, where the officer turned off the patrol car\u2019s lights and sirens and stopped. <\/p>\n
Kennard turned into a no-exit part of King St at the south end of the town and drove at high speed behind industrial buildings out of sight of police, before re-emerging on the same street, where he crashed head-on into the police car. <\/p>\n
He got out of the car and was arrested at the scene. <\/p>\n
Neither Kennard nor the police officer was injured. <\/p>\n
Kennard told police he had travelled from Christchurch, where he had been visiting his mother. <\/p>\n
Police are seeking reparation for the costs of repair\/replacement of the police vehicle, which is yet to be determined.<\/p>\n
Kennard is scheduled to be sentenced at the Christchurch District Court on October 15 on charges of assault with a weapon, reckless driving and failing to stop.<\/p>\n
