Aniplex<\/a> started streaming on Sunday the full trailer for Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising<\/a>– (Gekij\u014dban Mah\u014d Sh\u014djo Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten), the official sequel<\/a> to the Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion<\/a> film.\u00a0The trailer announces and previews the theme song “Kanata” by Yuki Kajiura<\/a>‘s solo project Fiction Junction: <\/p>\n

The anime film will open<\/a> on August 28.<\/p>\n

Yukihiro Miyamoto<\/a> (Puella Magi Madoka Magica<\/a>, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story<\/a>, Arakawa Under the Bridge<\/a>) is directing the film.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The returning cast includes:<\/p>\n

Shion Wakayama<\/a> voices<\/a> the new magical girl Shich\u014dka (left in image above), and Tomoyo Kurosawa<\/a> voices Selma Therese.<\/p>\n

The anime film will feature a returning staff from the original anime series and films, including original creators Magica Quartet<\/a>, chief director Akiyuki Simbo<\/a>, scriptwriter Gen Urobuchi<\/a> of Nitroplus<\/a>, original character designer Ume Aoki<\/a>, animation character designer Junichir\u014d Taniguchi<\/a>, composer Yuki Kajiura, alternate space designer Gekidan Inu Curry<\/a>, and animation studio SHAFT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new and returning staff members are:<\/p>\n

SHAFT first hinted at a new work in the franchise<\/a> through a concept movie<\/a> in 2015, but the film was only announced<\/a> in April 2021.<\/p>\n

The film has suffered numerous previous delays, the most recent<\/a> of which happened in January due to production circumstances, delaying the movie from a planned opening in February. Prior to this most recent delay, the film was previously slated to open<\/a> in Japan in winter 2024, but was delayed<\/a> in August 2024 to winter 2025, before the delay to February 2026.<\/p>\n

The television edition<\/a> of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal<\/a> compilation films began airing<\/a> in October 2025.<\/p>\n

The original 12-episode Puella Magi Madoka Magica television anime premiered in January 2011, and Crunchyroll<\/a> later streamed the series. The Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings<\/a> and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal compilation films opened in Japan in October 2012, and then the Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion sequel film opened in October 2013. Aniplex of America<\/a> released the television series, two compilation films, and the sequel film in North America. Funimation<\/a> also streamed<\/a> the series.<\/p>\n

A television anime adaptation<\/a> of the Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story smartphone game premiered<\/a> in January 2020. The anime’s second season<\/a> premiered in July 2021. The third and final season<\/a> debuted in April 2022.<\/p>\n

The smartphone game launched<\/a> for iOS and Android devices in Japan in August 2017, and was free to play with optional in-game purchases. The English version launched<\/a> in the United States and Canada in June 2019. The English version of the game ended<\/a> service in September 2020, and the Japanese version ended<\/a> service in July 2024.<\/p>\n

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra smartphone game<\/a> launched<\/a> in March 2025, following a delay<\/a> from 2024 for the staff to “ensure even higher quality in the final game.” The game got<\/a> a version for PC via Steam<\/a> in July 2025. <\/p>\n
