Metallica<\/a> performed a cover of Tom Jones<\/a>\u2019 \u201cDelilah\u201d during their concert on Sunday night at Cardiff, Wales\u2019 Principality Stadium, a venue where the song has been banned for the past few years.<\/p>\n

Throughout Metallica\u2019s long-running \u201cM72 World Tour,\u201d bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett have been honoring acts local to the venue with a cover song during their \u201cdoodle\u201d portion of the concert. In this case, they paid tribute to Welsh legend Jones with a rendition of his classic song \u201cDelilah.\u201d<\/p>\n

Either Metallica didn\u2019t get the memo or were being a bit rebellious, because \u201cDelilah\u201d has been banned from that stadium since 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cDelilah\u201d had been a staple at the stadium during rugby games, but was banned because of the lyrical content, which tells the story of a husband murdering his wife. The Welsh Rugby Union stated at the time, \u201cThe WRU condemns domestic violence of any kind.\u201d<\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t sit well with Jones, who commented after the ban<\/a>, \u201cYou can\u2019t stop us singing \u2018Delilah.\u2019 Can you imagine\u2026 Who was the man who didn\u2019t want us to sing \u2018Delilah\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n

All that said, Trujillo and Hammett went ahead and performed the tune, with the crowd singing along to the hometown anthem. Video of the performance can be seen below.<\/p>\n
