Rashid Sheriff\u2019s fascination with photography and drawing originated in\u00a0his school days, though \u201cdue to various limitations and\u00a0circumstances, I\u00a0couldn\u2019t pursue those interests\u201d, he says.<\/p>\n

For the past 18 years, Sheriff, who is from Kerala, in south-west India, has been working in Qatar as an auto electrician. Smartphones, however, have allowed him to return to his passions once again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love to be close to\u00a0nature, so I was always drawn to macro\u00a0photography and\u00a0animals and pets,\u201d he says. \u201cMy\u00a0phone allows me to\u00a0capture beautiful, spontaneous moments with precision, even when they happen unexpectedly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheriff took this photo on a trip back to\u00a0his house in Kerala. Exhausted, he\u2019d slept most of the day, but when he woke up he headed out on to his balcony to photograph one of his pet fish.<\/p>\n

\u201cI filled a white ceramic bowl and carefully placed the fish inside,\u201d he says. \u201cThis is a crowntail betta fish, named for its fins, which look like crowns, but people often call it a fighter fish. I turned my\u00a0phone upside down and submerged it in the water, and I used the zoom and macro mode to get all the details.<\/p>\n
