He said police were on scene when they arrived. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere was lots of smoke that could be seen over the whole town and lots of flames.\u201d <\/p>\n
Sinclair said the fire had effectively destroyed the house. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe fought the fire from the outside initially, before we put crews in to do the final putting out of hotspots and what\u2019s left.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s still standing, but the inside is totally gutted.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fire was extinguished just after 7pm.<\/p>\n
Sinclair said it was the first Dannevirke house fire \u201cin a while\u201d that they had responded to.<\/p>\n
A police spokesperson said police on patrol at the time came across the fully engulfed house.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe house was vacant and no damage to surrounding properties were reported.<\/p>\n
