Matt Damon shared an unexpected health discovery while preparing for The Odyssey. The actor had recently undergone a transformation for Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming film. The actor said training for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey helped him discover an undiagnosed gluten sensitivity

Damon recently appeared on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast. He explained that the transformation required a demanding preparation for his latest role. He had to follow a strict fitness routine and diet. This process eventually led to a crucial health discovery.

“It’s just a complete, complete lifestyle change,” Damon said. He shared that the transformation needed a total commitment every single day. He had to reduce his calorie intake significantly. This intense routine helped support Nolan’s vision for Odysseus.

Damon shared that removing gluten had changed his health completely. “No, because of what it does to me,” he said. “I didn’t know.” He discovered that the food sensitivity led to a transformation of his overall well-being.

The Oscar winner said that older generations rarely had the chance to discover food sensitivities. Damon did not know that gluten affected him so severely. He misses eating bread, pizzas, and pastas. However, he now feels healthier. He shares that this health transformation makes the sacrifice worthwhile.

The actor has previously discussed his physical transformation on New Heights. Damon reveals that he had reached 167 pounds while filming the movie. He described that this has been the lightest he has weighed since high school. Nolan had the vision to see Odysseus as lean but look strong.

Damon credits his trainer and doctor for guiding him throughout the process. Their guidance helped him achieve the demanding fitness goals efficiently. The transformation delivered unexpected long-term health benefits for him. It became one of the most rewarding career preparations for Damon to date.
