Police on Karangahape Rd last night.<\/p>\n
It was estimated that around 500 people were in the bar at the time. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere was already a significant number of pedestrians in the area around the bar, and additional officers were brought in to manage the crowd as patrons left the bar when it closed,\u201d a police spokesperson said. <\/p>\n
Seven people were arrested, however, six of those were subsequently released without charge. <\/p>\n
The remaining person was charged with assaulting police.<\/p>\n
One witness said they could not reach home due to a heavy police blockade.<\/p>\n

They said they were told by police to head towards Ponsonby Rd, despite this being in the opposite direction of their home.<\/p>\n
\u201cI explained I lived right there, to which he said, \u2018Everybody is going that way \u2018, pointing in the opposite direction, towards Ponsonby Rd. <\/p>\n
