<\/a><\/p>\nGoodall raised eyebrows when he emerged in 13th on the opening lap, six places higher than his already impressive qualifying run.<\/p>\n
However, he was soon handed a five-second time penalty for short cutting the track amid the congestion at Turn 2.<\/p>\n
By the time he was required to serve it at his first pit stop, he was already due another 15-second punishment for turning around Zach Bates.<\/p>\n
Goodall said he was \u201cpretty disappointed\u201d to be told of the shortcut punishment post-race, given the circumstances.<\/p>\n
He was keen to point out he \u201cprobably got four spots off the start and braking\u201d into Turn 2, rather than from the shortcut.<\/p>\n
\u201cI only found out [about the penalty] after I got out of the car. It was probably best that the team didn\u2019t tell me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m actually disappointed because I thought there was nothing wrong with what I did.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously in drivers\u2019 briefing, we touched on that you\u2019d be referred to stewards [if you shortcut the corner].<\/p>\n
\u201cBut what it looked like to me was Broc [Feeney] was sort of sideways on the apex\u2026 so I just turned hard right over the kerb to avoid him.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not like I was completely going hard right against the wall, just gaining spots.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll have a look at the footage and see if there was anything else that I could have done.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut obviously being my first wildcard program, I wanted to keep out of the dramas.\u201d<\/p>\n
A stewards summary explained the punishment was for \u201cleaving the track and gaining an advantage\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe stewards reviewed broadcast vision in conjunction with the DSA (Driving Standards Advisor),\u201d it read.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe vision showed Car 5 left the track on the inside of Turn 2 and gained a position on Car 88 and gained positions on other cars.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe stewards consider this driving conduct amounts to a breach of the rules and impose a penalty consistent with previous breaches of a similar nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goodall acknowledged his bump on Bates at the final corner was a clear breach.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mucked up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were racing hard, he squeezed me up to the right [hander], and then I sort of tried to get under him the other way and just overcommitted.<\/p>\n
\u201cApologies to Bates for that one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Goodall ended the race in 24th place, eight seconds behind Matt Stone Racing wildcard Aaron Seton.<\/p>\n
Seton had a clean Saturday race after starting Friday with a 15-second punishment of his own for spinning Macauley Jones at Turn 2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Reuben Goodall on track.
