Despite protests around Modi\u2019s visit, there was clearly a warm relationship between India and New Zealand, Seymour said.<\/p>\n
While he could say similar things about Chinese Kiwis and maybe China, \u201cat government level, when you\u2019re firing missiles into the sea \u2026 then it\u2019s not so warm anymore\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina\u2019s years of diplomacy saying \u2018We are your friends\u2019 unravels when they pull these kinds of stunts.\u201d<\/p>\n
He downplayed tensions in the Government over the free trade agreement with India, saying there was also controversy ahead of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which had in reality been good for New Zealand.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis India free trade agreement will be fantastic \u2026 we\u2019ll look back on this and wonder what all the fuss was about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Seymour also forecast a positive end to the economic year, following data released last week showing the manufacturing industry surging.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite what\u2019s happened in the last 48 hours, all the incentives in the Middle East are for peace and to open up the strait [of Hormuz], and you\u2019re seeing that Brent crude price staying low, the price at the pump is staying low. That means more cash in people\u2019s pockets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
