A cul-de-sac for the 17 new homes in the subdivision at 3a-7 Balneavis Place and 79 Brabant Street will be called P\u0101k\u014dwhai Crescent.<\/p>\n
P\u0101k\u014dwhai was identified by iwi authority Te T\u0101wharau o Te Whakat\u014dhea as the original name of the village at the site of the present-day \u014cp\u014dtiki township.<\/p>\n
A report to the council said the village was bombed during the Crown invasion of September 1865, an event that contributed to the subsequent confiscation of Whakat\u014dhea lands through raupatu.<\/p>\n
The 12 new homes at the subdivision at 52-54 Ford St has Ng\u0101i T\u016b Lane.<\/p>\n
Ng\u0101i T\u016b is an ancient tribe that four Whakat\u014dhea hap\u016b that have traditional and customary occupation of \u014cp\u014dtiki township whakapapa from.<\/p>\n
The new lane created at 47 Buchanan St by Whakaatu Whanaunga Trust, with 10 new homes will have the road name Hou o te Rangi Lane. The name was given by Whakat\u014dhea\u2019s Taumata\/kaum\u0101tua group and members of Ng\u0101ti Ngahere hap\u016b.<\/p>\n
Hou o te Rangi was an ancestor of mana and held in high regard by Te Whakat\u014dhea. The land the new subdivision sits on has significance to this ancestor.<\/p>\n
