The Oscar-winning actor told People magazine<\/a> that he didn\u2019t speak with his mom for nearly 10 years, after she started sharing a bit too much with the press. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe had about an eight-year period where I had to have short conversations with her on our Sunday phone calls because she was sharing a lot of that information,\u201d the \u201cTrue Detective\u201d actor said in an article published last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d tell her something on Sunday between son and mom, and Tuesday I\u2019d read about it in the news or see it in the local paper. She couldn\u2019t help herself,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe were on a hiatus,\u201d Kay said, as Matthew smiled and shared that the two \u201chad some boring conversations on Sunday. I wouldn\u2019t tell you shit.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI took people through the house and said, \u2018Well, this is where Matthew slept,\u2019\u201d Kay told the outlet. \u201cSomeone called him and said, \u2018Are you watching what your mama\u2019s doing?\u2019 But I was so proud that I was just telling the world.\u201d <\/p>\n

It took the two some time before the actor said he \u201cgot stable enough with my own position and fame that I was like, you know what? My mom can say whatever the hell she wants,\u201d the actor shared. <\/p>\n

Matthew said the two then started to \u201cgo to red carpets\u201d and his mom would ask him if there were \u201cany rules\u201d to what she could say. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was like \u2018No rules at all. Tell all the raunchiest things you want.\u2019 And she did and it was fine. It\u2019s much more fun now,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was calling my mom at that time, after I\u2019d gotten famous, needing to talk to my mom,\u201d McConaughey said during an appearance on \u201cThe Howard Stern Show\u201d back in 2020. \u201cAnd my mom was not the only one on the phone. The woman that was on the phone was a fan \u2015 of my fame.\u201d <\/p>\n

The actor said it was \u201ca sad time\u201d for him, but the two were able to repair things. <\/p>\n
