We’re getting some more reaction to what we know about the PM’s speech he’ll deliver today on artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
Anthony Albanese will announce an Office of AI within his department to oversee the design of national standards for AI.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Sky News, Assistant Minister Julian Hill says the office will aim to preserve Australian values and decision-making in AI.<\/p>\n
He says the office will bring together the standards created and work already done in the AI space.<\/p>\n
“We want to make sure that we preserve those norms and that we don’t have algorithms, in my view, getting in the way and disrupting those things which, as a society, we’ve said, ‘They’re Australian values, that’s how we do things,'” Hill says.<\/p>\n
“Algorithms and AI may be able to help with some of that but we’ve got to do it in a way that preserves people’s legal rights and norms in society.”<\/p>\n
But Liberal frontbencher Aaron Violi says it’s too late and the office should have been created three years ago. He says the speech so far has no details or plan.<\/p>\n
“The reality is the prime minister has failed to lead.
