Consumer prices fell 0.4% in June and the yearly rate eased to 3.5%, while core inflation, which strips out food and energy, held at 2.6%. That softer reading helped pull the 10 year US government bond yield toward 4.57%, which can ease pressure on borrowing costs for mortgages, credit cards and companies.
