He also denied adding Anna on TikTok, and instead said it was Anna who added him. <\/p>\n
He said any inappropriate touching \u201csimply didn\u2019t happen\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the clear position.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2018It made me feel sick and weirded out\u2019<\/p>\n
In her statement to the tribunal, Anna said at first she thought \u201che was a really nice teacher, but then he got a bit too nice\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201c[Teacher] would hug me every time he saw me.\u201d <\/p>\n
The first alleged incident was around August 2022, when it was just her and the teacher in the classroom during either morning tea or lunch. <\/p>\n
She walked into class while she was crying. <\/p>\n
The teacher gave her a hug and put his hand on her lower back, then slowly rubbed it while moving it down her back, she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe did this while moving his hand down my back until he was touching my bottom. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis made me feel sick and weirded out.\u201d <\/p>\n
She claimed the next incident involved him again rubbing her back before moving his hand towards her bottom. <\/p>\n
She then told him that she was going to go and play. <\/p>\n
There was also another occasion when he inappropriately touched her, but she didn\u2019t think that anyone else would have seen it. <\/p>\n
She told the tribunal that she felt the teacher treated her differently, or gave her an \u201ceasier time\u201d about some issues than other students would get. <\/p>\n
After that, she tried to keep her distance, but at one point mentioned that she might change schools. <\/p>\n
He asked her which school. <\/p>\n
He then followed her there. <\/p>\n
The first time she saw him there, she ran over and gave him a hug, saying she did so because she had forgotten \u201cwhat he was like\u201d in their earlier interactions. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was excited to see him because I hadn\u2019t seen him in quite a while. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis hug went on for quite a while … but he didn\u2019t move his hand down.\u201d <\/p>\n
She said there was another time where he allegedly inappropriately touched her out in the field. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe then put his hand on my lower back and asked how my day was going and if I was having fun. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone saw this. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis touching made me feel disgusted.\u201d <\/p>\n
She also spoke of another incident, when she had a dress on, and the teacher went over and told her she looked older than she was. <\/p>\n
\u201c[Teacher] then hugged me and rubbed my back and moved [his hand] down towards my bum. <\/p>\n
\u201cI felt really uncomfortable and asked my friend to get my jacket.\u201d <\/p>\n
Regarding the TikTok allegations, she said the teacher used it as a teaching resource and he started following her on the social media platform and watching her videos. <\/p>\n
He started messaging her to say, \u201cHi\u201d and asked how she was doing, and would send her love heart emojis. <\/p>\n
Her parents then stopped her account as they didn\u2019t approve of her using the platform. <\/p>\n
However, she then got a new account and alleged that the teacher started following her.<\/p>\n
He began messaging her outside school hours and sending love heart emojis. <\/p>\n
Her parents saw the communications and contacted the school.<\/p>\n
\u2018He never touched you\u2019<\/p>\n
In questioning from Cornege about how many times she received inappropriate hugs, she said, \u201cWhenever there were no people around\u201d. <\/p>\n
He then put it to her that, initially, she had mentioned only one incident involving an inappropriate hug. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t remember,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cDo you remember then telling people there were two incidents, not four?\u201d he asked her. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to talk to you,\u201d she responded. <\/p>\n
Cornege then put to her that when people had initially asked her if there were other incidents, she had said, \u201cno\u201d. <\/p>\n
She said the incidents had happened several years ago. <\/p>\n
She denied making them all up. <\/p>\n
He put to her that she ran up to him at the second school because he was someone that she liked and respected. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d she replied. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou did that because he never touched you. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou would not have run up to him if he had touched you the way [you say] he did,\u201d Cornege put to her. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd he did,\u201d she replied, emphatically. <\/p>\n
Cornege put to her that in reality, he never touched her at all. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe did,\u201d she replied. <\/p>\n
\u2018It wasn\u2019t a normal hug\u2019<\/p>\n
The then-principal of the school Anna was attending when the allegations surfaced recalled the teacher turning up one day in her classroom. <\/p>\n
She said Anna went up to the teacher and hugged him. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t like a normal hug.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was over-friendly and lasted longer than I would expect between a teacher and a student.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a lingering hug, and teachers and students don\u2019t typically hug like that.\u201d <\/p>\n
She said it seemed like the teacher then made a \u201cbeeline\u201d for her, and then it all became about \u201c[teacher] and [student]. <\/p>\n
The teacher seemed \u201chappily surprised\u201d to see her and \u201cforgot where he was\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember thinking I have never encountered [that] before. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt caught me completely off-guard.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought it was quite unprofessional.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said the student\u2019s behaviour changed around the time the claims surfaced, with her getting into trouble at school and becoming \u201ca compulsive liar\u201d.<\/p>\n
Asked by Cornege what the student was lying about, she said she couldn\u2019t recall.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it\u2019s possible she was lying before [these alleged incidents happened]?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is correct,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u2018I was just thinking about her\u2019<\/p>\n
The then-deputy principal asked the teacher why he was messaging her so late at night and he told her that \u201che would be watching TV or falling asleep and he would be thinking of reaching out to her, so would just message and send quick love hearts\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe said once he explained his intentions to her parents he was sure they would understand.\u201d <\/p>\n
She later met with Anna\u2019s parents, who expressed concern that the teacher might be stalking her, or turn up at their house.<\/p>\n
The hearing will conclude tomorrow.<\/p>\n
