\n\tAfter a seven-year hiatus, Mariah Carey released\u00a0Here for It All last Friday (Sept. 26). The 11-track project, issued via gamma., is the latest chapter in the five-octave singer\u2019s storied, record-setting career. In addition to the singles \u201cType Dangerous\u201d and \u201cSugar Sweet\u201d featuring Shenseea and Kehlani, the album includes additional guest appearances by Anderson .Paak (\u201cPlay This Song\u201d) and The Clark Sisters (\u201cJesus I Do\u201d) as well as a cover of the Paul McCartney and Wings gem \u201cMy Love.\u201d (Check out Billboard\u2019s ranking of the album\u2019s 11 tracks HERE<\/a>.)<\/p>\n \n\tHere for It All\u00a0brings to 16 the total number of studio albums that Carey has released since bursting onto the scene in 1990 with her self-titled debut album on Columbia Records. And along the way, the singer-songwriter has racked up a host of chart and industry accolades that alone could take up a whole page.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tAmong those on the\u00a0Billboard\u00a0front: 19 Hot 100 No. 1s (18 self-penned), the most of any solo artist; most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with 97 (Rihanna is second with 60);\u00a0most years ranking at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with 21 (no one else has more than 10); and the only artist with No. 1s in every year of a decade (\u201890s, plus into 2000).\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tThat\u2019s not counting Carey\u2019s five Grammy Awards, induction into the Songwriters Hall of fame, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and\u00a0being presented<\/a> with the\u00a0Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the recent 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. Plus this winter, her gift that keeps on giving \u2014 \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d \u2014 could become the longest-leading Hot 100 No. 1 ever.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tBut first, to commemorate the release of\u00a0Here for It All,\u00a0members of the\u00a0Billboard\u00a0staff have ranked all 15 of Carey\u2019s preceding studio albums.<\/p>\n \tMerry Christmas II You (2010)<\/p>\n \t\t\tTrending on Billboard\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\tif ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) { \n\tReleased to mixed reviews, 2010\u2019s\u00a0Merry Christmas II You\u00a0is Carey\u2019s second holiday album. It wasn\u2019t a particular failing of the actual tracklist, though: the charms of Mariah are still on full display in post-disco groovers like the Wale collab \u201cYou Don\u2019t Know What to Do\u201d and the Q-Tip co-produced \u201cMeteorite,\u201d and George Michael\u2019s \u201cOne More Try\u201d is one of her most inspired ballad cover choices to date.\u00a0\u2014 A.U. \tMemoirs of an Imperfect Angel (2009)<\/p>\n \t\t\tTrending on Billboard\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\tif ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) { \n\tThe title of Mimi\u2019s twelfth studio album emphasizes the icon\u2019s imperfections, but the album itself certainly isn\u2019t without its own flaws. While she certainly hits some of the most dazzling highs of her \u201900s (\u201cObsessed,\u201d \u201cUp Out My Face,\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s A Wrap\u201d and \u201cH.A.T.E.U.,\u201d among them), Carey fails to leave much of a major impression with much of the rest of the album. The sparkle and sheen of Emancipation and E=MC\u00b2 gave way to stab at Tricky Stewart-helmed \u201810s R&B that overly relied on a whispery vocal approach and closed with a sickeningly saccharine Foreigner cover. Safe to say, it worked out well.<\/p>\n \n\tLargely free of commercial expectations, Carey plays around with the holiday canon, putting a jubilant, gospel-tinged stamp on \u201cJoy to the World,\u201d \u201cSanta Claus Is Comin\u2019 to Town\u201d and \u201cJesus Oh What a Wonderful Child.\u201d The key chestnut, though, is the original \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You,\u201d the omnipresent colossus that tops the Hot 100 each holiday season. Armed with a priceless set of pipes and a pen that valued edifying vocabulary, idiosyncratic melodic choices and a penchant for sweeping, romantic narratives, Mariah Carey delivered one of the greatest debut albums of all-time. <\/p>\n \n\tFrom the dizzying vocal acrobatics of the classic \u201cVision of Love\u201d to the post-80s rap delivery sprinkled across deep cut \u201cPrisoner,\u201d Mariah Carey somehow captured the general breadth of its titular star\u2019s sonic profile while simultaneously offering a glimpse into the boundless of her talent across just eleven tracks. As the title implies, it was a freer Carey (called \u201cMimi\u201d by close friends) \u2014 on the rebound from commercial and personal travails \u2014 who collaborated with a stellar cast of collaborators and guests that included Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, Snoop Dogg and The Neptunes. The result was a tasty m\u00e9lange of R&B, hip-hop, dance, pop and gospel that provided the perfect framework for Carey\u2019s illustrious vocals. Songs like the Grammy-winning classic \u201cWe Belong Together,\u201d \u201cShake It Off\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s Like That\u201d still sound just as vital as they did in 2005. \u2014\u00a0GM<\/p>\n \n\tHidden Gem: \u201cFly Like a Bird\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \tButterfly (1997)<\/p>\n \t\t\tTrending on Billboard\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\tif ( !window.pmc.harmony?.isEventAdScheduledTime() ) { \n\t\u201cThe sexy-ass songs started pouring out,\u201d wrote Carey of Butterfly in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. It took her to No. 1 on the Hot 100, as did \u201cMy All,\u201d a Latin-tinged ballad inspired by her secret romance with Derek Jeter. Even so, it\u2019s another single \u2013 \u201cmy first complete docu-song,\u201d she wrote \u2014 inspired by the MLB legend that stands as the album\u2019s finest moment. \u201cThe Roof (Back in Time)\u201d flips Mobb Deep\u2019s \u201cShook Ones (Part II)\u201d into a lush, layered and haunted ballad about her obsession over a rooftop rendezvous between the two, marking a new highpoint in her career both lyrically and sonically. That newfound comfort with intimacy rolls over into the sweet, restrained \u201cFourth of July\u201d and her vocally astonishing cover of Prince\u2019s \u201cThe Beautiful Ones,\u201d with Dru Hill assisting.<\/p>\n \n\tToward the end of this masterwork, the house- and gospel-indebted \u201cFly Away (Butterfly Reprise)\u201d seems to announce that Carey was through sticking to the genre lanes that had been so rigidly imposed on her from the start of her career.
