ShareShare

Coming up at 12pm BST: the individual all-around final in the men’s gynmastics.

ShareBin Kasdan Mohamad Aniq of Malaysia takes gold in the men’s 60kg weightlifting

He sets a new Games record of 152kg in the clean, defending his title; Rishikanta Singh Chanambam of India takes silver having set a new Games record of 121kg in the snatch, with Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Mboya earning bronze.

Share

Now Wiridulagew-Ka has a shy at 152 for he bronze … and he can’t, so Mboya of Keyna takes bronze, then Mohamad Aniq comes out again, gold medalist and trying 152, a Games record. Has he got it in him?

Share

Mohamad Aniq goes at 149 … and it’s there! Now Chananbam tries 151 for the last time, and if he can’t get it, he can’t win. It’s on the shoulders … and no, he puts the bar down.

Share

Updated at 06.43 EDT

In the netball, it’s one-way traffic, Australia leading England 35-25. The Diamonds look unstoppable.

Share

The weightlifting is getting tense, Mohamad Aniq of Malaysia having a shy at 141 … and he gets it. Then Mboya goes at 145, if he bangs it he guarantees bronze … and its there. He looks in pain, his left knee giving him agita, but unless Wiridulage-Ka can do something spectacular, the bronze is his.

Share

Updated at 06.40 EDT

India’s Chananbam attacks 143 … and he makes it work, just relieving Mboya of the lead. But Wiriduwalage-Ka of Sri Lanka moves from 135 to 144 … and up it goes. He settles in the bronze-medal position.

Share

Australia are all over England in the netball, up 24-16 and buzzing about in mid-court unchecked. I’m really enjoying their movement and pace on their passes.

Share

Back with the weightlifting, Mboya of Kenya nails 136kg in the clean&jerk, mmmm jerk, and he leads.

Share

At the end of the first quarter, Australia lead England 18-11 in the netball. The Diamonds have been extremely impressive.

Share

Australia have taken over in the netball, up 15-10 on England. The way they move – themselves and the ball – is so sharp. There are two minutes left in the quarter.

Share

Heat seven features Houlie of South Africa, and he powers through in 26.53; he’ll take some stopping later on.

Share

..and Ramsay-Peaty hangs on, 27.27 to 27.29. He’ll feel better for that, and the semis are coming up later this evening.

Adam Ramsay-Peaty finishing first in Men’s 50m Breaststroke Heat. Photograph: Owen Humphreys/PAShare

Updated at 06.29 EDT

Ramsay-Peaty leads, but he’s under pressure for young phenom Nowicki of Jersey, who beat him last evening to take silver…

Share

Ramsay-Peaty is out for his head, and they take their marks. Has he got a response to yesterday’s disappointment?

Share

One of my daughter’s netball coaches called me last week and was chatting about how all the England players are tall, apart from one. I told her I knew who she was, for a reason soon to become clear, and she began extolling Alicia Scholes, before telling me who her dad is. I assured her I’m familiar and indeed have a figurine of little Paul on my shelf, then she explained that Alicia is brilliant in the angles she finds, both taking the ball and making passes. This made me very happy: the Scholesy genius works across sports (but she’s been left out of the squad – perhaps Gerrard and Lampard have daughters who play).

Share

Updated at 06.20 EDT

It’s been an even start in the netball, Australia 3-3 England, but it feels a bit like the Red Roses are hanging on.

Share

Updated at 06.05 EDT

In the poll, the men’s 50m breaststroke heats are under way. Ramsey-Peaty goes in heat six of eight.

Share

In the netball, our teams are coming out, and the arena is bouncing. Can England shock the defending champs?

Share

Mollie O’Callaghan, the Australian star, wins the final heat of the 100m free, easing up, and she’ll fancy herself to take this one home; the semis-finals are coming up later on.

Share

In the heats of the women’s 100m free, England’s Freya Anderson has just won her heat; in four minutes, my highlight of the my morning gets going, Austrealia v England in the netball.

Share

The snatch element of our men’s 60kg weightlifting final is over; the clean and jerk will be away soon enough.

ShareShare

The weightlifting is hotting up, Chananbam retaking the lead with 121, a GHames record. But can Bin Kasdan of Malaysia match it? He can. and on we go, Mboya of Kenya now a way back with 115.

ShareShare

I posted the Ramsay-Peaty report from last evening a few minutes ago, an d he’ll need to have recovered quickly, as he goes in the 50m breaststroke heats in this morning’s sesh. Back with the weightlifting final, meanwhile, Mboya goes for 115kg … and it’s up, but Chananbam of India just about gets there with 116 and takes the lead.

Share

Our first netball match is over, Scotland beating Wales 56-47; they lost to NZ yesterday, but will hope to finish second in Pool B. In Pool A, England beat Norther Ireland 83-34, while Australia thumped Tonga 99-38.

Share

Aha, Mboya of Kenya has banged 108kg and, as I type, hoists 110 – with plenty left in the tank, so it seems. He takes the lead.

Share

Updated at 05.25 EDT

Biggup! Niyoyita of Uganda nails 105kg on his last attempt, and he’s still in the competition. Someone has gone better than that, but so fat the’ve not been good enough to let us know who and with what.

Share

In the netball, Scotland have preserved their 11-point advantage, up 50-39 on Wales, and they’re exchanging goals, more or less.

ShareShare

In the final of the men’s 60kg weightlifting, we’re up to 105kg, which is pretty heavy. Lanoue of Canada, the smallest man in the field can’t bang it up,

Share

Why do we not have netball in the Olympics? That feels like a colossal oversight to me, a quick, exciting sport played by millions of schoolkids to which loads of us have a frame of reference. It needs to be there, in mine.

Share

Updated at 05.11 EDT

In the netball, with one quarter to go, Scotland lead Wales 42-31. England v Australia is to come, and I can’t wait for that one.

SharePreamble
