Exclusive: When Robert Irwin<\/a> got the call to be the TV Week Logie Awards<\/a>\u2032 youngest ever host, he had to check with mum Terri<\/a> and sister Bindi<\/a> before he could say yes.<\/p>\n

The conservationist<\/a> and TV personality<\/a>, 22, told nine.com.au he first called his family to make sure he could be freed from his Australia Zoo commitments the week of the Logies<\/a>. <\/p>\n

At 22, Robert Irwin will be the youngest ever host of the Logie Awards.\u00a0Getty Images for SiriusXM<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to call them because the entire month of August, I\u2019m up north catching crocodiles for a research expedition that we do,\u201d Irwin began. <\/p>\n

After realising the August 16 Logies date coincided with his annual trip with the University of Queensland<\/a> to catch and tag wild crocodiles, Irwin asked his family to cover for him. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey were like, \u2018Yeah! You\u2019ve got to do it!\u2019 So I was I just jumped at the chance. I mean, it was an immediate yes for me,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Irwin will be taking over from comedian Sam Pang\u2019s three-year rein<\/a> as Logies host and says he plans to do things a little differently. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs harsh as [Pang\u2019s] roasts can be, I love them and he\u2019s a genuinely lovely person. He\u2019s fantastic and we want to preserve that legacy so we\u2019re going to create something completely new that\u2019s going to be fresh and different, and big and theatrical,\u201d he teased. <\/p>\n

While Irwin needs absolutely no assistance in the hosting department, he nodded idols that have inspired him. <\/p>\n

\u201cNamely, of course, my parents, who absolutely pioneered this incredible new age. I grew up watching them. I mean, forever, my mum and dad will always be my icons,\u201d Irwin glowed of his late father Steve Irwin and mum Terri. <\/p>\n

Irwin creditted his parents Steve and Irwin for his passion and positivity.\u00a0Instagram\/@robertirwinphotography<\/p>\n

He added that his co-host, dear friend and fellow Gold Logie nominee Julia Morris<\/a> is another \u201cabsolute icon\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have learned so much from her,\u201d Irwin said. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a monumental year for the environmentalist\u2019s career in the entertainment world with his Dancing with the Stars win in the US and several hosting jobs up his sleeve. <\/p>\n

\"Julia<\/p>\n

Despite being nominated for the Gold Logie himself, Irwin is campaigning for colleague Julia Morris, who arrived to the nomination event with a cardboard cut-out of the conservationist. \u00a0Getty\/James Gourley<\/p>\n

When asked how he manages to find time to rest among all his different jobs and his wildlife conservation work, Irwin said he simply doesn\u2019t. <\/p>\n

\u201cI really wouldn\u2019t want any time to rest. I\u2019m at a point right now where I don\u2019t want to rest!\u201d he laughed. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s too much to be done here. And when I\u2019m not doing something like the Logies, I\u2019m up north catching crocodiles, or I just hosted the Climate Action Week with Prince William.\u201d <\/p>\n

For a young man bursting with so much energy and positivity, it\u2019s the least bit surprising when he says he\u2019s not the kind to sit by the pool and read a book. <\/p>\n

Irwin says he\u2019s ready to take on the 2026 Logies in his usual high-energy style.\u00a0Instagram\/@robertirwinphotography<\/p>\n

\u201cAll power to anyone who can do that, but I don\u2019t have the attention span for that!\u201d he laughed. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d rather be catching a croc or on stage dancing, or just attacking life, you know? I think that\u2019s what I was put on the planet to do, to just go full send, mate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, the driving force behind Irwin\u2019s blossoming showbiz career is to find any platform where he can echo the message of wildlife conservation. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all to cast this net, to draw in as many people as I can into the message that I\u2019ve got,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf people are looking at me and going, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s Robert Irwin, that\u2019s that Australia Zoo kid\u2019, then I\u2019ve done my job.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Logies ceremony is set to be a major event, celebrating 70 years of Australian broadcast television.<\/p>\n

The ceremony will be held on Sunday, August 16, at The Star in Sydney.<\/p>\n
