Black Panther has its next king.<\/a> One of the biggest reveals at Marvel’s<\/a> recent San Diego Comic-Con was the announcement that BAFTA-winning British actor David Jonsson will play Prince T’Challa II<\/a>, the son of Wakanda’s late king, in Black Panther 3. Taking the stage, franchise director Ryan Coogler, who bagged an Oscar win for Sinners<\/a> (Best Original Screenplay) earlier this year, confirmed the casting, with Jonsson stepping into a role that carries forward the legacy immortalised by Chadwick Boseman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Born in East London<\/a> on September 4, 1993, to a mother who worked in the police force and a father in IT, Jonsson graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before making his stage debut in Mary Stuart at the Almeida Theatre in 2016\u2014a production that later transferred to the West End. His screen career began in 2018 with two episodes of the British detective drama Endeavour , but it was his turn as Augustus “Gus” Sackey in the first two seasons of HBO’s Industry<\/a> that firmly put him on the map. From there, the 32-year-old quickly built an impressive r\u00e9sum\u00e9, culminating in the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2025. He also made history as the first Black actor to lead an Agatha Christie<\/a> screen adaptation. With roles in upcoming titles like The Chaperones, Benn\/Eubank and Scandalous still to come, Jonsson\u2019s one of the industry\u2019s (pun intended) rising stars. Widely regarded as one of the best screen adaptations of Stephen King’s dystopian novels, the Francis Lawrence-directorial follows a brutal annual contest in which one boy from every US state is chosen to participate in the \u2018Long Walk\u2019 where, if they don’t maintain a pace of three miles per hour, they will be killed, with many perishing during the arduous challenge in any case. The lone survivor (last boy standing) would win a cash prize and fulfillment of one wish. Jonsson plays Peter McVries, one of the key contestants whose quiet confidence and emotional intelligence make him an unlikely leader among the boys.
