Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said authorities were determined to exhaust every avenue in the search, while acknowledging the chances of finding the infant alive were slim.<\/p>\n
\u201cSadly today we have not been able to locate the boy but we will resume the search tomorrow in the morning,\u201d he said yesterday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe conditions out there \u2026 were extremely challenging.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stevens also spoke to the \u201ctragic set of circumstances\u201d and their impact on the remaining family.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an extremely challenging time for the family of the deceased people that we have found,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Police said they have spoken to the husband of the deceased woman.<\/p>\n
Originally from Estonia, Wright lived in Compton, near Mount Gambier, with her husband and their two children, the ABC reported.<\/p>\n
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said it was a blow that \u201cshocked you to the core\u201d, Nine News reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cWherever we see the loss of anybody, it\u2019s a tragedy. Where it involves children, that breaks your heart,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Local mayor Kylie Boston said everybody is stunned \u201cbecause you hope these things don\u2019t ever happen\u201d.<\/p>\n
Superintendent Cox said police knew the 3-month-old baby had been with his mother earlier on Monday, but it remained unclear whether he went into the water with the mother, according to Nine News.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe baby is known to have been with the mother earlier that day but as to whether the baby was still with her when the vehicle was left, that\u2019s open to speculation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said police were \u201ckeeping an open mind about everything\u201d, but they did not \u201chold out great hope\u201d for the infant.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe child is less than 1 year old,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
