Parents said the \u201cridiculous\u201d rule had left students feeling cold in \u201cfreezing\u201d temperatures.<\/p>\n
One parent, whose son attends Mount Albert Grammar, said it\u2019s \u201ctough on cold days, especially for the kids who are wearing jackets and scarves without jumpers underneath\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose kids come in from the cold and have to immediately go down to just a shirt when they haven\u2019t had a chance to warm up.<\/p>\n
\u201c[My son] said classrooms have heating but can still be a bit cold.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another parent said their son was told by a teacher, \u201cit\u2019s not raining inside so take your jacket off\u201d, with the consequence for not complying being detention.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s bloody freezing at the moment, I think we can all agree. My son has complained about how cold he is in the classroom several times in the last month. The heating in the class isn\u2019t sufficient.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, the teachers are all layered up with jackets in the class.<\/p>\n
\u201cPersonally, I feel children should be able to wear the correct school jackets and scarves inside if needed, we aren\u2019t all the same.\u201d<\/p>\n
Drumm said he was \u201cunaware of any complaints to the school from parents about classrooms not being heated\u201d and \u201cevery classroom in the school is heated by a number of different methods\u201d.<\/p>\n

Asked about the consequences for not complying with these rules, he said: \u201cNormal classroom management processes and expectations [are] managed by teachers. We have very strong buy-in and understanding from students.\u201d<\/p>\n
Parents also say students aren\u2019t allowed to wear extra tops underneath to keep warm.<\/p>\n
Drumm said, \u201cStaff do not check whether students are wearing thermals.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents follow the long-standing uniform expectations focusing on wearing our MAGS school uniform correctly and with pride at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n
