During the late afternoon and early evening, a partial solar eclipse will see around 70% of the Sun obscured by the Moon, before darkness gives way to the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower, one of the most prolific displays of shooting stars visible anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n
Although the Perseids are active from mid-July until late August, their spectacular peak is expected overnight on 12\u201313 August, making this one of the best opportunities of the year to experience the shower.<\/p>\n
The timing makes the evening even more remarkable. Because solar eclipses occur during a new moon, there will be little moonlight to compete with the night sky, creating ideal conditions for watching the Perseids later that evening.<\/p>\n
Although the eclipse and Perseids will be visible across much of Europe, Tenerife\u2019s high altitude, exceptionally clear skies and protection under the Canary Islands\u2019 Sky Law make it one of Europe\u2019s premier destinations for stargazing.<\/p>\n
