Photo \/ NZME<\/p>\n<p class=\"TErgZkLeGvuOzWkL\" style=\"display:none\">But clinic manager Daniel Giardina was open about the service experiencing high demand in July, because of the usual winter peak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"TErgZkLeGvuOzWkL\" style=\"display:none\">From July 13 to 17, White Cross Whang\u0101rei treated an average of 126 patients a day, peaking on Monday, July 13, with 145 patients, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"TErgZkLeGvuOzWkL\" style=\"display:none\">The numbers  remained high for all of July, with an average wait time of two to four hours, Giardina said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"TErgZkLeGvuOzWkL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt is not unusual for White Cross in Whang\u0101rei to experience lines forming both before and during our opening hours. <\/p>\n<p class=\"TErgZkLeGvuOzWkL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cMornings are a significant challenge for the service as we need to balance patient safety and our book-in procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"TErgZkLeGvuOzWkL\" style=\"display:none\">The high demand at White Cross Whang\u0101rei coincided with peaks at Whang\u0101rei Hospital ED, where staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/whangarei-hospital-ed-staff-fear-someone-could-die-waiting-for-care\/5JBGRKRA7VEFFPCGZCHNDM5Q4A\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/whangarei-hospital-ed-staff-fear-someone-could-die-waiting-for-care\/5JBGRKRA7VEFFPCGZCHNDM5Q4A\/\">feared someone could die in the waiting room<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"Health Minister Simeon Brown says the expanded urgent and after-hours care is about providing more accessible healthcare close to home.
