\u201cHe went to med school and had high standards that he kept himself to.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was resilient and a fighter. It\u2019s very tragic.\u201d<\/p>\n

He told the Herald he last saw his brother in person 11 years ago when he visited him at his hometown overseas.<\/p>\n

He said they tried to make an effort to video call, particularly on special occasions.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother was a very private person; he didn\u2019t share much, so we were in the dark on any family matters, and we respected him for that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he didn\u2019t want to upset anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the couple \u201cseemed happy\u201d on the brother\u2019s last video call on May 30.<\/p>\n

The couple was found dead in a home on Lingfield St in Glenfield.<\/a><\/p>\n

A third person was found with injuries from a reported stabbing, 5km away at a property on Seon Pl in Birkdale, where the 41-year-old was arrested.<\/p>\n

The man described his brother\u2019s wife as a \u201cloving and caring woman\u201d who had fought her own battle earlier in life.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe had cancer. That\u2019s why there\u2019s a big age gap between their sons, because she had to wait to have a natural, healthy birth again.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the wife had always described New Zealand as a \u201csafe place to live\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was worried when they came to visit here with a high crime rate, but she said she always felt safe over in New Zealand,\u201d the man said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe told me she could leave her house unlocked and just go to the beach.\u201d<\/p>\n

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said the \u201cawful set of events\u201d would leave \u201cmany in our community unsettled, but what I can say at this early stage of the investigation is that the offender and victims are all known to each other\u201d.<\/p>\n

The relative said he has offered his nephew, now left with minimal family in New Zealand, the opportunity to live with them in South Africa.<\/p>\n
