It\u2019s been nearly five years since Spider-Man\u2019s last big-screen adventure, but your friendly neighborhood webslinger is finally back.<\/p>\n

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton<\/a>, \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>,\u201d in theaters now, follows a Peter Parker (Tom Holland<\/a>) who no longer has much of a life outside of his vigilante crime-fighting and keeping tabs on his loved ones (Zendaya<\/a>, Jacob Batalon) from afar.<\/p>\n

The movie\u2019s biggest reveal involves the identity of the villain played by Sadie Sink<\/a> \u2014 and plenty of questions remain about her future and what her appearance means for a certain fan-favorite mutant superhero team.<\/p>\n

But although much has changed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the years since the 2021 release of \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home<\/a>,\u201d one tradition remains: unpacking the meaning<\/a> of an installment\u2019s post-credits scene<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrand New Day\u201d features just one brief end-credits sequence to tease what\u2019s next for Spidey. Here\u2019s how it connects to upcoming MCU installments \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d and \u201cSecret Wars.\u201d<\/p>\n

What happens in the \u2018Spider-Man: Brand New Day\u2019 post-credits scene?<\/p>\n

The bonus footage shown after the full credits of \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d roll is more of a tease than a proper scene. The brief stinger involves the Spider-Man tracking app created by Ned, which allows users to log any sightings of the webslinger. The Spidey Tracker<\/a> map screen shown in the post-credits tag at first shows the friendly neighborhood hero\u2019s location as being \u201cunknown\u201d at that moment. The map then zooms out of New York and away from Earth before the Spider-Man icon indicates he has been spotted somewhere in outer space.<\/p>\n

Does that mean Spider-Man is returning for \u2018Doomsday\u2019?<\/p>\n

Maybe! The expansive cast list<\/a> for \u201cAvengers: Doomsday<\/a>\u201d includes members of the Avengers past and present, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and many others, but one glaring omission has been Tom Holland as Spider-Man. It\u2019s possible that the secretive Marvel has stayed mum just to keep his appearance a surprise and Spidey will not only appear but also join some of the other heroes \u2014 like the Fantastic Four<\/a>, who have a spaceship \u2014 as they venture out to somewhere in space.<\/p>\n

It seems unlikely that Marvel would keep Spider-Man\u2019s involvement in \u201cDoomsday\u201d a secret for so long only to spill the beans without fanfare in a brief post-credits stinger, though.<\/p>\n

Will Spider-Man be in \u2018Secret Wars\u2019?<\/p>\n

Probably? Not much is known about \u201cDoomsday\u2019s\u201d follow-up, \u201cAvengers: Secret Wars,\u201d which is reportedly<\/a> scheduled to start filming \u201csoon.\u201d Throughout the \u201cBrand New Day\u201d press tour, Holland has maintained<\/a> that he knows absolutely nothing about the upcoming movie.<\/p>\n

But \u201cSecret Wars\u201d gets its name from a couple of Marvel comic book storylines<\/a> that involve various heroes being pitted against each other. Although MCU works are usually not direct adaptations, Spider-Man was involved in both comic crossovers.<\/p>\n

The 2015 \u201cSecret Wars\u201d<\/a> story featured some plotting by Doctor Doom and saw multiverses collide, be destroyed and merge. During the crossover, the main continuity\u2019s Spider-Man teamed up with another dimension\u2019s Spidey<\/a> \u2014 Miles Morales<\/a> \u2014 who then ended up moving to the main Marvel universe in the event\u2019s aftermath.<\/p>\n

Spider-Man also played a part in the very first \u201cSecret Wars\u201d crossover<\/a> in the 1980s. In this story, various heroes were plucked away from their usual haunts by a mysterious powerful being and pitted against similarly assembled villains (including Doctor Doom). It was during this crossover that Spider-Man first donned the sentient black suit<\/a> that would become known as Venom<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both \u201cSecret Wars\u201d series saw characters displaced onto a patchwork planet called Battleworld. The Spidey Tracker info from the \u201cBrand New Day\u201d post-credits scene could be teasing that\u2019s where Spider-Man will eventually land.<\/p>\n

What do we know for sure?<\/p>\n

\u201cBrand New Day\u201d concludes with the message \u201cSpider-Man will return.\u201d Fans will just have to wait to see when, where and which Spider-Man will be involved.<\/p>\n
