Warren Ellis<\/a>\u00a0has shared the story of a guitar gifted to him by his late friend Glen Hansard, noting that \u201ceveryone Glen crossed in life was richer for the experience\u201d.<\/p>\n

Hansard, the\u00a0Oscar<\/a>-winning Once star and\u00a0frontman\u00a0of\u00a0The Frames<\/a>,\u00a0died following a motorcycle crash in Dublin on Wednesday (July 29)<\/a>. He was 56 years old.<\/p>\n

In the days since, Ellis has shared a series of tributes remembering their long friendship, including an anecdote about Hansard unexpectedly sending him a Gibson tenor guitar around a decade ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo\u00a0Glen calls me ten years back,\u201d the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds musician wrote on Instagram. \u201cAsked what\u2019s the best address for me. When I pushed\u00a0him\u00a0he said\u00a0he\u2019d\u00a0been in the Woody Guthrie archives and walked into a guitar shop and found a tenor for me. Said it was a sign.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ellis said he initially refused the gift, but Hansard told him: \u201cIt\u2019s not a conversation. A Gibson tenor arrived with a note. \u2018If there\u2019s a song in it you\u2019ll find it\u2019. Most guitar guitar I\u2019ve ever owned.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the outpourings the last days, everyone Glen crossed in life was richer for the experience,\u201d Ellis added. \u201cSending my love to Maire and Christy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ellis had initially responded to the news of Hansard\u2019s death by describing him as \u201ca good man and loyal friend\u201d.<\/p>\n

He recalled Hansard travelling overnight to see Dirty Three<\/a> perform in Boston and secretly paying to attend despite Ellis having placed him and his band on the guestlist.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlways above and beyond,\u201d Ellis wrote. \u201cAnd always about the music, the blah blah, the dogs and the meaning of it all. Sending my love to your family and\u00a0band mates\u00a0and friends. Heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another post, Ellis reflected on his first meeting with Hansard in County Cork in the mid\u201990s, when The Frames opened for the Dirty Three.\u00a0He recalled Hansard \u201cserving whiskey until the sun came up\u201d as the two musicians discussed their shared love of late AC\/DC<\/a>\u00a0frontman\u00a0Bon Scott.<\/p>\n

Hansard\u2019s family\u00a0have\u00a0announced details of a public wake and funeral for the musician<\/a>. He will lie in repose at the Baroque Chapel at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin on Monday (August 3), before a public funeral at St Patrick\u2019s Cathedral the following afternoon.<\/p>\n

Music at the service will be provided by Hansard\u2019s friends and family, while a public address system will be installed outside the cathedral due to the limited capacity inside. It will also be broadcast on\u00a0RT\u00c9 News and RIP.ie.<\/p>\n

Ellis, meanwhile,\u00a0performed with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at their UK-exclusive homecoming show in Brighton yesterday <\/a>(July 31).<\/p>\n
