The company behind the play said Grande would no longer be involved in the production and that it fully supported her decision.<\/p>\n

In a 2024 interview, Grande spoke about the constant commentary on her appearance and weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been kind of doing this in front of the public and kind of been a specimen in a petri dish really since I was 16 or 17, so I have heard it all,\u201d Grande said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that it\u2019s something that is uncomfortable no matter what scale you\u2019re experiencing it on,\u201d she said, \u201ceven if you go to Thanksgiving dinner, and someone\u2019s granny says, \u2018Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?\u2019 or \u2018You look heavier! What happened?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The retreat from the public follows a wave of online concern over Grande\u2019s health after her music video for Petal was released last Friday, with some viewers describing her as \u201cextremely thin\u201d and expressing concern for her wellbeing. <\/p>\n

Others defended the singer, calling for an end to speculation and commentary about her body.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeave her body alone. Ariana doesn\u2019t exist for your commentary,\u201d wrote one commenter. \u201cHer weight is not a public discussion. Body-shaming a woman for being thin is still body-shaming. Full stop. Protect her energy and keep the focus where it belongs: the music.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, others took the view \u201cpeople are allowed to be concerned for her health\u201d.<\/p>\n

British model and body-positivity writer Charlotte Howard was among those who spoke out after the release of Grande\u2019s music video.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s vital we discuss imagery\/videos\/content like these and the damage they can \u2013 and will \u2013 have on women and girls.
