{"id":55753,"date":"2025-10-02T06:40:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T06:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/55753\/"},"modified":"2025-10-02T06:40:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T06:40:08","slug":"f-off-auckland-mayor-wayne-brown-tells-auckland-ratepayers-alliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/55753\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018F*** off\u2019, Auckland mayor Wayne Brown tells Auckland Ratepayers&#8217; Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/4K1K0LO_Image_8_jpg\" width=\"1050\" height=\"700\" alt=\"Auckland mayor Wayne Brown.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nAuckland mayor Wayne Brown<br \/>\nPhoto: MARIKA KHABAZI \/ RNZ\n<\/p>\n<p>Auckland mayor Wayne Brown has told a ratepayers lobby group to &#8220;f*** off&#8221;, in response to their request for him to join a pledge to keep rates down.<\/p>\n<p>An email screenshot sighted by RNZ showed the mayor&#8217;s curt reply to the Auckland Ratepayers&#8217; Alliance, with the subject heading &#8211; &#8220;Is Wayne Brown planning a rates blow-out?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Brown&#8217;s campaign said in a statement that the mayor wished to be &#8220;unambiguous&#8221;, after what he sees as a bombardment by the group&#8217;s PR stunt emails.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their so called pledge is unrealistic and meaningless,&#8221; the statement said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4K05LKL_6d01b562_18b3_4a6d_ada7_b41fe888137f_png\" width=\"1050\" height=\"759\" alt=\"An email screenshot shows the Auckland mayor said &quot;f*** off&quot; in reply to an email from the the Auckland Ratepayers' Alliance.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nThe Auckland mayor&#8217;s &#8216;unambiguous&#8217; response.<br \/>\nPhoto: Supplied \/ Auckland Ratepayers&#8217; Alliance\n<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson said the mayor directed his expletive at &#8220;the idea of a planned rates blow-out&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Warren from the Ratepayers&#8217; Alliance said the mayor&#8217;s &#8220;f**** off&#8221; comment are like water off a duck&#8217;s back &#8211; &#8220;He&#8217;s known as Mr Grumpy for a reason,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>However, while the mayor is entitled to his own opinion, Aucklanders are fed up with high rates, said Warren.<\/p>\n<p>He said the 7.9 percent rate increase to be delivered in 2026\/2027 is upsetting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wayne Brown likes to frame himself as a ratepayer hero. He talks the talk, but won&#8217;t walk the walk. Hundreds of incumbent and hopeful candidates around New Zealand have signed the Ratepayer Protection Pledge. Other cities&#8217; leaders are saying &#8216;yes&#8217; and have signed the Pledge. So should Mr Brown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unless Wayne Brown changes tack, he&#8217;ll be delivering the highest ever rates hike for the Super City.
