{"id":55882,"date":"2025-10-02T08:10:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T08:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/55882\/"},"modified":"2025-10-02T08:10:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T08:10:12","slug":"roswall-tells-meps-it-troubles-sparking-eu-deforestation-delay-are-no-easy-fix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/55882\/","title":{"rendered":"Roswall tells MEPs IT troubles sparking EU deforestation delay\u00a0are\u00a0no\u00a0easy\u00a0fix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"175\" data-end=\"488\">Technical issues hampering enforcement of EU\u2019s new anti-deforestation rules (EUDR) won\u2019t be fixed before the end of the year, EU Commissioner Jessika Roswall told MEPs in a closed-door meeting on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"175\" data-end=\"488\">That means a one-year delay to rules requiring companies to prove that imports of cocoa, coffee, palm oil, beef, timber, and rubber do not contribute to deforestation is becoming increasingly likely, according to sources close to the discussions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"803\">Roswall met with the coordinators of the Parliament\u2019s Environment Committee (ENVI) late on Wednesday afternoon, the first time they had met since she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/news\/eu-set-to-propose-new-delay-to-anti-deforestation-rules\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> plans to postpone the enforcement of the rules into 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"1056\">The Swedish commissioner told Euractiv as she left Parliament that she had held a \u201cgood informal discussion\u201d with MEPs.
