When Aaron Kher<\/a> walked out of the MasterChef Australia<\/a>\u00a0semi-final<\/a> kitchen, he had given absolutely everything, so much so that he nearly collapsed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crew actually had to come up to me and give me a lot of sugar because I was going to pass out,\u201d medical product specialist Aaron, 32, tells TV WEEK<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI had nothing left in the tank.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite pouring every ounce of himself into the cook, it wasn\u2019t enough to earn a place in the grand finale, bringing to an end what he describes as an \u201call-consuming\u201d experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the competition, you\u2019re quite separated from all your support groups,\u201d he explains. \u201cEverything is about MasterChef<\/a>. You\u2019re only thinking about the pressure because there\u2019s so much weight on every cook. You feel a lot of mental stress to perform at a high level continuously. You don\u2019t get a break.\u201d<\/p>\n

But while his journey in the competition is over, Aaron says it marks the beginning of a brand-new chapter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not the end of anything, it\u2019s the beginning of a whole new journey,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019ve already started working in a sushi restaurant, I\u2019ve got pop-ups coming up throughout the year, and I might even head to London to visit my sister.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perhaps the biggest transformation has been personal. Throughout the series, Aaron reconnected with his Malaysian heritage through food, something he says changed the way he sees himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom day one to now, I\u2019m a completely different person,\u201d he says. \u201cIt helped me rediscover who I really am and stop putting up a fa\u00e7ade. It taught me to express myself and be real with how I feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

That journey was made easier by judge Poh Ling Yeow<\/a>, who understood the expectations Aaron faced after leaving his family\u2019s business<\/a> to chase his culinary dream.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a whole lot of expectations that come from our Asian families,\u201d Aaron says. \u201cShe reassured me that chasing my dreams wasn\u2019t letting anyone down. I needed to do this for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
