Chevrolet is all but set to bring the Camaro back, having axed the nameplate in its traditional coupe and convertible guise at the end of 2023 \u2013 but it appears we may have to wait longer for the new-look, four-door model.<\/p>\n

GM Authority<\/a>, a publication dedicated to the General Motors brands, claims insiders have said the Camaro won\u2019t return to the US until the 2029 model year, meaning a 2028 launch is more likely than previous reports of a 2027 arrival.<\/p>\n

According to the publication, it\u2019ll continue to offer an internal combustion engine and be rear-wheel drive, though it\u2019ll blur the lines between past and present by becoming a four-door sedan.<\/p>\n

However, as previously reported, it\u2019s not expected to adopt a traditional \u2018three box\u2019 sedan profile, and is instead tipped to feature coupe-like design cues, setting it apart from the brand\u2019s last performance four-door, the Chevrolet SS \u2013 better known as the VF Holden Commodore.<\/p>\n

The new Camaro, regardless of what form it takes, will reportedly ride on an evolution of the platform which underpinned its predecessor, Alpha 2 – or potentially adopting the Alpha 2-2 moniker.<\/p>\n

This means it\u2019ll continue to be rear-wheel drive, while insider sources have said the new Camaro<\/a> will be available with an automatic transmission (of unknown gears) or a six-speed manual, the latter of which has been a hallmark of performance variants in previous generations.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s likely that, as with the most recent Camaro, it\u2019ll share its underpinnings with the next Cadillac CT5 sedan, which too is expected to offer automatic and manual transmissions, as well as a choice of performance engines.<\/p>\n

No details have been provided about what the high-performance Camaro will entail, though GM Authority speculates it could be powered by the 6.7-litre LS6 V8 engine<\/a>, the first of the new sixth-generation General Motors small blocks which recently launched in the C8 Corvette.<\/p>\n

Cadillac CT5 to keep V8 power, offer manual – report<\/p>\n

The Cadillac CT5 will live on for another generation, and there are claims it\u2019ll continue to offer a V8 engine and a manual transmission.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the new Silverado 1500 was revealed in the US<\/a> in June, featuring a 5.7-litre V8 replacing the outgoing 5.3-litre L84, while the previous flagship 6.2-litre L87 has been superseded by a 6.6-litre V8 \u2013 engines which could find their way into the Camaro.<\/p>\n

The previous generation Camaro ZL1 and current CT5-V Blackwing have both offered a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 under the bonnet.<\/p>\n

Chevrolet\u2019s rumoured Camaro sedan launch comes amid speculation that Ford is planning to produce a sedan version of the Mustang coupe<\/a>, which would bring it back into the petrol-powered passenger car segment.<\/p>\n

A report by Automotive News<\/a> in August last year claimed a Mustang-derived four-door sedan could launch as soon as early 2028, at least in the US.<\/p>\n
