Every dollar spent by our competitors should deliver the greatest possible return through exposure, promotion, and value.

“After reviewing our direction, it became clear that remaining aligned with the strongest promotional platform available is the most sustainable path for Formula RX8 and the people who invest their time, money, and passion into the category.”

The announcement comes amid a turbulent period for the AASA, which has had several high-profile controversies stemming from the disputed sale of the governing body.

Since then, Hi-Tec Oils relinquished the promotion of the series and parted company as the series sponsor.

The flagship series has since been rebranded to the AASA Race Series and has lost its free-to-air TV deal with SBS amid a split with production company AVE.

That news was met with consternation among competitors.

AASA has also lost its competition director Marcos Ambrose, who made sweeping changes to formats this year.

Formula RX8 organisers said they would announce the remainder of the 2026 calendar within 24 hours.

“On behalf of Formula RX8, I would like to thank AASA we appreciate the opportunity to have worked together and wish AASA and everyone involved every success in the future.

“Formula RX8 has always stood for affordable, safe, competitive motorsport where mates race mates. That vision has never been stronger.

“Our focus now is on continuing to grow the category, delivering exceptional value to our competitors, and ensuring Formula RX8 remains Australia’s premier grassroots racing category.

“The best is yet to come in 2026 and 2027.”

Matt Boylett (#80) was unbeaten in the series , now under new ownership.
