That announcement may have been a bit dishonest. Though it’s possible they didn’t know what the problem was at the time.

The reason is apparently because of a quality control issue and they are going to get it sorted before letting them leave dealer stock rooms. We have heard a few have already made their way to customers.

Ship dates are something the manufacturers take very seriously. It does even the playing field for each retailer, as they will likely get stock at different times.

What’s the problem?

There is no word on what the quality control issue is, but kudos to Sony for recognizing it ahead of time to minimize customer and dealer frustration. It will also help Sony’s own support department.

One possibility is the issue is firmware related, which is usually easily corrected, it’ll just take either releasing the firmware on the ship date.

There is also the possibility that it was a hardware manufacturing defect and Sony is manufacturing corrected cameras and will exchange inventory with dealers that have already received them and stop shipments to retailers that haven’t yet received their allocation.

Sony FX5 Full-Frame Cinema Camera
Full-Frame · Cinema Line

Image stabilization

Sensor-Shift

Triple base ISO

800 / 4000 / 12800

Max recording

X-OCN LT 16-Bit, up to 5K at 59.94 fps

Max video output

4:2:2 10-Bit HDMI up to 5K · 16-Bit RAW HDMI up to UHD 4K, 23.98–59.94 fps

Media slots

Dual: CFexpress Type A / SDXC (UHS-II)

Mobile app

iOS & Android — file access, settings, remote control, live view

Preorder →Good job Sony

As I mentioned earlier, it’s a good thing that Sony wants to correct the issue before it reaches customers.
