Multiple leaked clips posted this week show the port struggling with frame rate dips and blurry visuals once players step outside the game’s opening dungeon and into the open world of Cyrodiil.

The footage adds a fresh layer of scrutiny to a port that Bethesda and developer Virtuos have shown only sparingly ahead of release, with the studio’s official reveal trailer offering barely any in-engine footage at all.

Physical Cartridges Beat the Street Date

According to Notebookcheck, a physical Switch 2 game has again leaked before its scheduled debut, with a YouTuber who already has a physical copy confirming frequent frame rate dips in a new video, after obtaining the Switch 2 game early on a cartridge that doesn’t require a day-one patch. Separately, a poster on the modding community GBAtemp said they had had their physical order for Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 delivered earlier that day, beating out the official release date by a few days, and used the head start to record their own impressions.

That GBAtemp user’s early verdict was more forgiving than some of the other leaked clips circulating, describing the port as “decent” — “not perfect, but decent” after spending time with it ahead of launch.

Frame Dips and Blurring in Cyrodiil

Outlet VGTimes reviewed separate leaked clips showing the game running with its day-one patch already installed, and reported that the first gameplay footage running on the Switch 2 with its day-one patch installed sparked a wave of questions regarding the port’s overall quality, with leaked videos showcasing the title running in both docked and handheld modes. The outlet added that performance in docked mode appears highly unstable, with the video’s creator noting that the frame rate frequently dips below the 30 FPS target.

Visual quality reportedly varies sharply depending on location. Per VGTimes, the game makes a strong first impression inside the tutorial’s starting sewers, but performance degrades significantly once players step into the open world, where the graphics can look noticeably blurry alongside apparent memory leak issues. Notebookcheck’s own look at the leaked docked-mode footage similarly found that the longer video demonstrates performance in docked mode, starting in the Imperial Prison, with developers aiming for 1080p at 30 fps though frame rates occasionally fall below that mark, and more troubling inconsistent frame pacing that leads to visible choppiness, worsening once escaping to Cyrodiil.

A handheld-mode clip from the same source suggested the smaller screen doesn’t fully mask the issues either: in a separate post, the leaker briefly tried the handheld version, where the resolution takes a slight hit at 900p with a 30 fps target, and the gamer didn’t find the experience much different than when connected to a flat screen, though there was a particularly long pause approaching a denser city area.

Bethesda’s Official 900p/1080p, 30fps Targets

The leaked footage lines up with the technical targets Bethesda already confirmed on June 30 alongside the Switch 2 release date announcement. As detailed by Nintendo Everything, Bethesda says the game will run at 30 FPS, applying to both docked and handheld modes, with a docked resolution of 1080p and a handheld resolution of 900p, with DLSS supported for both docked and handheld play to help with resolution. No 60fps mode has been announced for the port.

The Switch 2 version also adds control options unique to Nintendo’s hardware, with Bethesda’s own Elder Scrolls news post confirming players will be able to take advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware with unique motion controls that put you directly in the action. Nintendo Everything separately noted that support is confirmed for motion controls, touch screen, and left and right hand mouse mode.

Full Cartridge, All DLC Included at Launch

Unlike some of Bethesda’s earlier Switch 2 ports, the standard physical edition ships as a complete game rather than a Game-Key Card. Bethesda’s own storefront listing confirms the package includes Fighter’s Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Vile Lair, Mehrune’s Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard’s Tower, The Orrery and the Horse Armor Pack on top of the base campaign and both story expansions, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine.

US pricing has been confirmed at $49.99 for the digital Standard Edition and $59.99 for the physical Deluxe Edition, which bundles extra cosmetic armor and weapon sets via download code. Local AUD/NZD Nintendo eShop pricing had not been separately confirmed at the time of writing; Kiwi and Australian shoppers will want to check regional storefronts closer to launch.

A Hybrid Engine Under Strain on Switch 2’s Hardware

Part of the challenge facing the port traces back to how Oblivion Remastered was built in the first place. The remaster pairs a modern rendering layer with two-decade-old game logic — as one outlet explained, it runs Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen global illumination and Nanite virtualized geometry pipeline as the visual layer on top of the original 2006 Gamebryo engine, which continues to run physics, combat, and AI. That combination has already produced stutter and memory-management complaints on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S well over a year after the original shadow drop.

Bethesda has form for shipping rough Switch 2 launches that improve post-release — both Skyrim’s and Fallout 4’s ports on the console reportedly needed patches to settle down. Whether Oblivion Remastered follows the same trajectory before or shortly after its August 11 debut remains the open question for Switch 2 owners eyeing Cyrodiil on the go.

Sources

Early gameplay of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered running on Nintendo Switch 2 has surfaced online just…

[6
8438,23778,111,139,32029,69,277067,145,277068,277069
post-563444","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-technology","tag-bethesda","tag-empty","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nintendo-switch-2","tag-nz","tag-oblivion-remastered","tag-technology","tag-the-elder-scrolls-iv","tag-virtuos
["GET
