Women Talking, the 2022 film starring The Crown’s Claire Foy and Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley, was a critical darling but sadly didn’t do numbers at the cinema. It made just $9 million off the back of a $20 million budget, and was labelled a box-office bomb.<\/p>\n

But now it’s been added to BBC iPlayer after airing on TV the other day, so if you have a TV license you can watch it for free.<\/p>\n

The plot focuses on a group of women who live in a remote religious community who gather to discuss what to do after making a truly horrific discovery.<\/p>\n

Women Talking has a very strong 90% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, and was actually named as one of the year’s best films by the American Film Institute.<\/p>\n

“Why would you watch a movie about women talking? Because it’s brilliant”, wrote News.com.au<\/a>. “This is a film that puts dialogue at its centre, but without feeling like a staid stage production. It courses with purpose and intent.”<\/p>\n

“[Director] Sarah Polley’s trust in the material \u2014 and her actors \u2014 allows for the performances to flourish, and the performances drive the story along with the barrage of words”, reads RogerEbert.com<\/a>‘s review. “[The] cast is a murderer’s row of talent.”<\/p>\n

“The subject matter may be sombre, yet the tone of these conversations is thrillingly vibrant and engaging,” wrote Mark Kermode<\/a>, while the Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> praised Foy and Buckley’s “ferociously fine performances”.<\/p>\n

Women Talking is currently available on iPlayer<\/a> for the next 27 days, while it can also be streamed with a Prime Video<\/a> subscription.<\/p>\n

Claire Foy may be best known for her TV role in The Crown, but she has plenty of film credits on her CV.<\/p>\n

There’s The Lady in the Van, which is also currently available on iPlayer, The Girl in the Spider’s Web is available with a Sony Pictures Core subscription, while The Electrical Life of Louis Wain is free on Channel 4, <\/p>\n

As far as Jessie Buckley goes, Wicked Little Letters can currently be streamed on Channel 4 for free, while the recent film The Bride! is available on Sky\/NOW Cinema and HBO Max.<\/p>\n
