Police and wh\u0101nau are appealing for sightings of 62-year-old Cecil, reported missing in Tauranga.<\/p>\n
He was last seen about a week ago in the Ohauiti\/Hairini area of Tauranga, police said today.<\/p>\n
It is believed he may be in the Tauranga or Hastings areas.<\/p>\n
Police and Cecil\u2019s family are concerned for his wellbeing.<\/p>\n
In a statement to NZME, wh\u0101nau said Cecil left on foot on Saturday without his phone, and with possible plans to head to Hastings.<\/p>\n
“His health isn\u2019t the best and he wasn\u2019t in the best mind state when he left either. We\u2019ve contacted our cousin in Hastings and he hasn\u2019t made it to his daughter there either.<\/p>\n
Cecil has been missing since September 27.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s our uncle and we love him, we just wanna know that he\u2019s okay. This is completely out of character and we are genuinely concerned,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
They said he had no cards, ID or backpack, which he usually took everywhere, and he left his boots at home. He was wearing brown clothing.<\/p>\n
He was known to frequent the Greerton, Merivale and Gate P\u0101 areas of Tauranga.<\/p>\n
Cecil could not hear well, so having a conversation was difficult.<\/p>\n
Wh\u0101nau had been searching in the Tauranga area and extended their efforts to Te Puke, Rotorua and Taup\u014d, with no luck.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have spoken to lots of the homeless in the area. He has not been in any of these circles, as expected. Many acknowledged knowing him or seeing him pass by prior to his take-off, but he has not been in any of those areas recently around Tauranga.\u201d<\/p>\n
