Photo \/ Christchurch City Council<\/p>\n<p class=\"BXSdIJQrZoWgYbVqzX\" style=\"display:none\">Carran said he was privileged to be appointed chief executive in New Zealand\u2019s second-largest city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BXSdIJQrZoWgYbVqzX\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI\u2019ve developed strong relationships throughout my time in local government and understand the challenges facing the sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BXSdIJQrZoWgYbVqzX\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThere\u2019s a big job ahead for the council and I want to keep building on the strong progress in recent years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BXSdIJQrZoWgYbVqzX\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cMy immediate priority will be to ensure the Council continues to operate effectively, efficiently and transparently, with community at the heart of everything it does.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BXSdIJQrZoWgYbVqzX\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to working with staff and the elected members, who always put the city at the forefront of everything we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"BXSdIJQrZoWgYbVqzX\" style=\"display:none\">Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger also shared he was \u201cdelighted that Bede will be taking the role on a permanent basis\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BXSdIJQrZoWgYbVqzX\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cHe brings the steady hands the council needs as we face increasing financial pressure, high expectations from our community, as well as ongoing changes to local government,\u201d Mauger said.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger said he was looking forward to working with Bede Carran.
