A magnitude 4.1 earthquake has rattled the eastern Bay of Plenty this evening. <\/p>\n
GeoNet said the tremor occurred at around 6.25pm on Tuesday, around 15km west of Whakat\u0101ne at a depth of 5km. <\/p>\n
Thousands reported feeling the shaking, classified as “light” by GeoNet. <\/p>\n
“That was a big shake,” one Whakat\u0101ne resident said on Facebook. <\/p>\n
“Waoooo, that was a solid shake [sic],” another resident added. <\/p>\n
One woman said “Papatuanuku is shaking here in Whak\u0101tane,” adding that her “entire cabin shook like my heart”. <\/p>\n
Tonight’s shaking joined a cluster of earthquakes<\/a> around New Zealand in recent weeks. <\/p>\n Earlier this month, a “strong” magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck near Te Araroa<\/a> and was felt by thousands. <\/p>\n Taumarauni was jolted by a “severe” magnitude 5.9 earthquake<\/a> in July, which followed a magnitude 5.9 earthquake near Te Anau<\/a> a week earlier. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A magnitude 4.1 earthquake has rattled the eastern Bay of Plenty this evening.
