GlobalData<\/a>.<\/p>\nGlobalData\u2019s Type 2 Diabetes (T2D): Epidemiology Forecast to 2035 report identifies hypertension as the most prevalent diagnosed comorbidity among patients with T2D across the markets analysed.<\/p>\n
The US is expected to account for the highest number of diagnosed prevalent T2D cases in 2035, with just under 29.6 million cases. Japan and the five major European markets \u2013 France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK \u2013 are forecast to have approximately 8.6 million and 22.9 million cases, respectively.<\/p>\n
Higher body mass index (BMI), sedentary lifestyles, diets high in processed foods and ageing populations are among the factors contributing to the increasing burden of T2D. GlobalData epidemiologists identified particularly high prevalence rates in Germany and the US, which may be partly associated with higher rates of obesity and ageing populations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The report also found that the prevalence of diagnosed comorbidities varied across the 7MM, with hypertension accounting for the largest proportion of cases with a diagnosed comorbidity. Germany recorded the highest proportion of comorbid hypertension.<\/p>\n
