Invercargill fire crews rushed to a burning flat amid reports a person was caught inside on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
At about 12.40pm, emergency services were notified of a smoke-filled\u00a0flat in Selwyn St,\u00a0off Bluff Highway, in Invercargill.<\/p>\n
Units from Invercargill and Wallacetown initially responded \u00a0and the first engine arrived at the scene at 12.48pm.<\/p>\n
After reports one person was unaccounted for, engines from Bluff and\u00a0\u00a0Winton were also dispatched, Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson Simon Lyford\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
Fenz later confirmed only one person was in the house at the time and no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
The crews extinguished the fire by 1.17pm, and one appliance\u00a0from Invercargill and two investigators remained on the\u00a0the scene mid-afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A witness reported a strong smell of gas at the scene, which was\u00a0not confirmed by Fenz.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Lyford said if anyone saw or smelled smoke, or a fire, call 111.\u00a0<\/p>\n
