THE CANADIAN PRESS\/Jonathan Hayward<\/p>\n<p>By The Canadian Press<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\tAug 12, 2026 | 1:57 PM\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>CALVERT ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA \u2014 Two Fisheries Department officers have been injured when the boat they were in crashed into a humpback whale on British Columbia\u2019s central coast. <\/p>\n<p>A statement from the department says the crash occurred Sunday when the agency\u2019s vessel collided with a humpback whale near Calvert Island, about 100 kilometres north of Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. <\/p>\n<p>The department says the whale involved in the collision hasn\u2019t been identified, and it\u2019s working with the B.C. Marine Mammal Response Network to locate the animal and document any injuries. <\/p>\n<p>The collision left two officers injured, but the statement says it can\u2019t give further details for privacy reasons. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A humpback whale is seen outside of Hartley Bay along the Great Bear Rainforest, B.C.
