The diner in George St has closed. Photo: Google Maps <\/p>\nA Dunedin diner and ice cream parlour has closed \u201ceffective immediately\u201d\u00a0leaving customers stunned and saddened.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a post on social media, Patti\u2019s & Cream announced with a \u201cheavy heart\u201d\u00a0the lease on its George St diner had come to and abrupt end.<\/p>\n
However, the post also teased \u201csomething new\u201d was\u00a0coming to North East Valley.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had to close effective immediately,\u201d the post said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to thank the massive team of people that help us leave on such short notice on Tuesday evening.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a massively exhausting, enjoyable, testing, dream crushing, dream filling 4 years running a restaurant in some of the most testing economic times I have ever known, in the centre of this city I love.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Patti\u2019s & Cream Scoop Shop, in Eglinton Rd, would remain open.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery single customer if you loved it, hated it, rated it, I appreciate you ALL.\u201d<\/p>\n
Patti\u2019s & Cream owner Olive Tabor began her\u00a0ice cream-making empire with a single white van back in 2018.<\/p>\n
She came up with the concept after travelling to the United States.<\/p>\n

That opportunity came in the form of the building landlord reaching out to her, with an offer to take over the lease on the premises.<\/p>\n
It meant a rapid scaling-up for Patti\u2019s & Cream, taking the number of employees across the businesses from four full-time and four part-time staff, up to seven full-time and “around six part-time staff”.<\/p>\n
People took to social media to express their disappointment.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh no!!! The diner was our favourite!!\u201d, one person said.<\/p>\n
Another said they came for dinner in the diner\u2019s first week and had loved their subsequent visits.<\/p>\n
“You will be sorely missed, but we are looking forward to the next adventure!!\u201d<\/p>\n
One person said Dunedin \u201cneeds this business\u201d.<\/p>\n
