Lume, which \u201ccan be thought of as both a digital collection and a digital store,\u201d\u00a0brings \u201cboxed set-style content \u2014 demos, live tracks, extra artwork, and behind-the-scenes footage \u2014 to app stores.\u201d<\/p>\n
It works on a \u201cbuy once, own forever\u201d model, rather than a subscription, and 80% of net revenue \u201cis reserved for artists and their partners.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Lume app officially launched on Apple iOS last month, and it landed on Google Play earlier this week, meaning the app is now available globally across the vast majority of devices.<\/p>\n

You can hear what we made and explore what it was like to be there at the time \u2013 more than 20 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n Rising star Emerson, whose Leap record is the first EP to drop on the platform, says she\u2019s \u201cso excited to be releasing\u201d via Lume.\u00a0\u201cI think it\u2019s really cool that it gives me a way to bring people into the world of the EP and share some things they wouldn\u2019t normally get to hear or see, from how the songs came together to exclusive bonus tracks.\u201d<\/p>\n Leap is the second Lume exclusive debut, following Isla Noon\u2019s Out of Body REDUX, which debuted at No. 11 on the Aotearoa Albums Chart based on Lume sales alone.<\/p>\n According to a press release, Lume\u2019s first month \u201cdelivers significant chart placings,\u201d, with eight Lume releases \u201ceither rising, re-entering or debuting\u201d on the Official Aotearoa Music Charts<\/a>. The app also reached No. 2 in the music category within the iOS app store.<\/p>\n \u201cOur whole mission is to create a new format \u2013 one which gives greater insight to the world of an album, while allowing fans to buy knowing it makes a meaningful contribution to the sustainability of artists,\u201d says co-founder Duncan Greive. \u201cTo achieve this chart performance right from the start is so validating for us.\u201d<\/p>\n Emerson\u2019s EP arrives on Lume two weeks before it hits other streaming platforms.<\/p>\n Moving forward, Lume is running new releases in two ways: albums will come out as they\u2019re releases on streaming, but once a month, on a Friday, the platform will host drops featuring a selection of fresh Lume releases arriving at once.<\/p>\n Find out more about Lume here<\/a>.
