{"id":568704,"date":"2026-08-14T10:22:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T10:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/568704\/"},"modified":"2026-08-14T10:22:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T10:22:13","slug":"supercars-team-boss-floats-theory-on-will-brown-restrictor-mix-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/568704\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars team boss floats theory on Will Brown restrictor mix-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Off the back of the controversy, Brad Jones gives insight into the size, location and role of the restrictors in his team\u2019s latest YouTube video, above.<\/p>\n<p>Triple Eight on Tuesday uncovered that it had a 49mm restrictor fitted to Brown\u2019s car, rather than the stipulated 50mm.<\/p>\n<p>Supercars said the 49mm restrictor was supplied solely for the<a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-2026-triple-eight-engine-claim-response-comments-statement-details\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> purpose of running the car\u2019s pre-season launch in Geelong and was never intended for race use<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The category had to have more Ford restrictors produced ahead of the opening round this year to accommodate the increased number of Mustangs in the field.<\/p>\n<p>Supercars\u2019 restrictors are typically colour coded to avoid confusion over sizes.<\/p>\n<p>Jones showed off the 52mm anodised orange restrictor used in the Toyota and suggested a lack of colouring may have played a role in the Triple Eight saga.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ford is anodised red and is a 50mm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mix-up I think with Triple Eight is that some of the ones, because there\u2019s more Fords in the series this year, early on weren\u2019t anodised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Multiple sizes of Ford restrictor are in existence following changes to the specification of the Coyote V8 since Gen3 debuted.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, Jones said his team checks each restrictor when it is delivered by Supercars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we get these, they\u2019re made by Supercars, so they machine them up, they anodise them and they give them to you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey turn up here at BJR, we measure every single one and then we put them into the system.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Off the back of the controversy, Brad Jones gives insight into the size, location and role of the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":568705,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[17819,111,139,69,216,213],"class_list":["post-568704","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sports","tag-brad-jones-racing","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz","tag-slot3","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/568704","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=568704"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/568704\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/568705"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=568704"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=568704"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=568704"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
