From the start of the epidemic through August 13, 2026, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded a total of 4,727 confirmed cases, including 2,214 deaths, representing a case fatality rate of 46.8%.<\/p>\n
Ituri remains the epicenter of the epidemic, accounting for 85.0% of cumulative confirmed cases and 66.1% of new cases reported in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n
55 of the 151 health zones across the six provinces have been affected since the start of the epidemic in the DRC. Ituri has 28 affected health zones out of 36, followed by North Kivu (12\/34), Haut-U\u00e9l\u00e9 (6\/13), Tshopo (7\/23), South Kivu (1\/34), and Bas-U\u00e9l\u00e9 (1\/11).<\/p>\n

Bas-U\u00e9l\u00e9 has become the sixth province in the Democratic Republic of Congo to be affected by the Ebola epidemic.<\/p>\n
According to the Director General of Africa CDC, Dr. Jean Kaseya, the first confirmed case concerns a person who came from Isiro, in the province of Haut-U\u00e9l\u00e9, who then went to Bas-U\u00e9l\u00e9 before dying in Buta, the capital of that province.<\/p>\n
The head of Africa CDC also claims that the outbreak may have started as early as February, several months before its official declaration in May. He emphasizes the uncertainties surrounding the spread of the virus and community transmission during this period.<\/p>\n
