Prince Harry<\/a> was back on British soil earlier this summer, but if anyone expected his return to finally thaw the royal frost, they were sorely mistaken. The Duke of Sussex came and went without meeting his brother, Prince William<\/a>, or sister-in-law, Princess Catherine.<\/a><\/p>\n

Another visit, another opportunity to repair one of the most bitter family rifts in modern royal history allowed to slip quietly by. Harry, 41, did manage to spend private time with King Charles<\/a>, marking significant progress in the strained relationship between father and son. But when it came to William, 44, the silence was deafening.<\/p>\n

The brothers, once inseparable, remain estranged more than six years after Harry and Meghan Markle<\/a> dramatically walked away from royal<\/a> duties and built a new life across the Atlantic.<\/a> Harry has repeatedly spoken about reconciliation and wanting his family back.<\/p>\n

But words only go so far – and each time he returns to Britain without seeing William, the prospect of repairing their relationship looks increasingly remote.<\/p>\n

The latest visit was significant. Harry was in Britain for engagements connected to the Invictus Games<\/a> Birmingham 2027, including an event at the NEC marking one year until the competition begins.<\/p>\n

The trip also resulted in an important family reunion at Highgrove, where Charles was understood to have spent time with Harry, Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.<\/a><\/p>\n

It was the first time the King had seen his Sussex grandchildren in person since the late Queen\u2019s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. But William and Catherine, 44, were conspicuously absent from the rapprochement.<\/p>\n

There was no brotherly summit, no private meeting and certainly no public indication that one of the most damaging royal rifts of recent years had begun to thaw.<\/p>\n

The distance between Harry and his family did not appear overnight. After the Sussexes left royal duties in 2020, they spoke extensively about their experiences inside the institution.<\/p>\n

Their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 was followed by their Netflix<\/a> documentary series in 2022 and Harry\u2019s memoir Spare in January 2023.<\/p>\n

William featured heavily in the Duke\u2019s account, including Harry\u2019s claim that an argument between the brothers<\/a> at Kensington Palace in 2019 became physical.<\/p>\n

Harry has subsequently spoken about wanting his family back, but rebuilding trust after years of public revelations has proved considerably more complicated.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the starkest illustration came in 2024. Buckingham Palace announced in February that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer, prompting Harry to fly from California to Britain and briefly meet his father.<\/p>\n

Weeks later, Catherine revealed that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy following her own cancer diagnosis. It was an extraordinary period for the monarchy, with two of its most senior figures undergoing treatment while William balanced royal duties with supporting his wife and their three children.<\/p>\n

Harry, meanwhile, remained firmly outside as others stepped forward during one of the Firm\u2019s most difficult periods. It only makes the gulf between the brothers more striking.<\/p>\n

There have admittedly been signs of progress elsewhere, including Harry\u2019s summer meeting with the King. But making peace with Charles is one thing. Repairing the damage with the future King is quite another.<\/p>\n

William is no longer simply Harry\u2019s older brother. He is the heir to the throne and increasingly central to the monarchy Harry chose to leave behind. Another visit came and went. Another chance disappeared.<\/p>\n

Harry can continue talking about reconciliation, but eventually actions have to follow words.<\/p>\n

With William, it appears too much has happened, too much trust has been lost and too many opportunities have passed.
