Edwards said while police attempted to get to the scene of the stopped vehicle, the man got out and stole a commercial vehicle.<\/p>\n
The Ford Ranger belonged to Epro Limited, a company that specialises in predator control. A worker was inside the ute at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was removed by the offender, and no injuries were sustained,\u201d Edwards said.<\/p>\n
The driver fled in the vehicle along State Highway 5 towards Hawke\u2019s Bay. <\/p>\n
Edwards said police from Taup\u014d and Hawke\u2019s Bay were deployed.<\/p>\n
They managed to spike the second vehicle about 9km south of Pohokura, near Te H\u0101roto. <\/p>\n
The man was taken into custody just before 10am.<\/p>\n
Charges were pending, Edwards said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolice did an excellent job in resolving this offending as quickly and safely as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Edwards said police wanted to hear from any motorists who witnessed the driving and may have dash cam footage.<\/p>\n
Managing director Kane Stafford of Epro Limited told Hawke\u2019s Bay Today their employee was heading to work when they found themselves \u201cin the wrong place at the wrong time\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said they were \u201cshaken up but uninjured\u201d after the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not what you expect to happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe driver decided he liked our vehicle better because his one didn\u2019t have any tyres working.\u201d<\/p>\n
